ACTA unit of G.C.College in collaboration with Kiron Sashi Women’s Cell gives relief materials to flood victims
May 24: At a time, when multitude of people in Cachar district are in the grip of flood, many people and organisations have come forward to help the flood victims. Although the river water has gone down considerably below the danger level, yet by then, many people were rendered homeless as river water flooded their home. As a good Samaritan, many individuals and organisations have come forward to help those people.
Gurucharan College (GC College), Silchar unit of Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA) in collaboration with Kiron Sashi Women’s Cell, G.C.College, undertook a relief work in parts of greater Silchar, where the residents were the worst affected by flood. Arrangements were made to distribute dry food items like milk, water, mosquito nets etc.
Six different spots were identified in Beranga part 2, Bethukandi Part 4, Madhutilla (in NIT Silchar) and Saidpur and accordingly, relief materials were distributed. Nearly 500 families were covered under the programme.
Chandan Paul Choudhury- Zonal President (ACTA), Dr Madhumita Dey- Unit President (ACTA) and President Kiron Sashi Women’s Cell, Dr Sarbani Dutta- Unit Secretary (ACTA), Dr Abijit Nath, Dr Seba Roy, Dr Joydeep Bhattacharjee, Dr Ashish Nath and other members of ACTA and Kiron Sashi Women’s Cell joined hands for successfully monitoring the programme. Students from National Service Scheme (NSS) Wing of G.C.College led by Dr Mridul Mohan Das (Officer in Charge) and student representatives of ABVP helped in distributing the relief materials.
