ACTA its letter to the Chief Minister wrote, “Education is one of the primary sectors facing the brunt of the second wave of COVID 19. Unless we inoculate all the Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) students, we will not be able to make them and their parents convinced and confident enough about going for an early resumption of the normal teaching learning processes in the colleges.” In view of the above, ACTA urged upon the Chief minister to arrange for a special vaccination drive so that the college students are provided the jab at the earliest.

Assam College Teachers' Association (@ACTA_ASSAM) | TwitterTo achieve this feat, the college teachers association volunteered to donate their one day’s salary so that the government can use the money to purchase vaccine for the students. ACTA wrote, “To that effect, we offer a small contribution of one day’s salary as an initial measure for early commencement of a special vaccination drive in colleges for the students by the authorities concerned. The same may be done by the Govt. by a special arrangement of direct debit from monthly salary of the teachers.”

The letter addressed to the Chief Minister was signed by ACTA President Biswajit Bhuyan and General Secretary Himangshu Maral. A copy of the same was also forwarded to the Education & Health Ministers of the state. Expressing their trust in the leadership of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at this hour of crisis, ACTA wrote, “We sincerely hope that Assam will soon be able to defeat COVID-19 under your able leadership.”
