A sign of worry! Daily Covid-19 cases much higher in Assam than Delhi
Positivity rate in Delhi 0.32%, whereas in Assam it is 2.57
June 16: At the peak of the second wave, 28,000 cases were reported on one day in Delhi. From April 19, both daily cases and the single-day death count rose sharply with over 28,000 cases and 277 deaths recorded on April 20. This went up to 306 fatalities on April 22. On May 3, the city registered a record 448 deaths, according to official data.
However, Delhi successfully tackled the brutal second wave. On 15 June, 2021, out of 71,291 tests, Delhi reported only 228 new Covid-19 cases as compared to 131 cases on 14 June. The daily Covid-19 cases reported in Delhi on Tuesday was 0.32% as compared to 0.22% on Monday. The city has recorded as many as 12 Covid-19 related deaths and 364 more Covid-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours. As per experts, the lockdown imposed by the Delhi government helped in effective control of Covid-19 in Delhi.
On the other hand, the 2nd wave in Assam during it’s peak reached a little over 6,000 cases. Daily cases used to mainly hover around 5,000 plus. The Assam government went for a half day lockdown since April 2021. On Tuesday, out of 1,32,929 tests, 3,415 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,66,590. The positivity rate in the state is 2.57 percent. Further, on Tuesday, 34 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,028. The recovery rate is 90.31 percent. It needs mention here that on Monday, 3,678 persons tested positive in Assam and 43 deaths were registered. On Tuesday, 2,906 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,21,378 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. The recovery rate in the state is 90.31 percent.
In comparison to the 228 positive cases in Delhi on Tuesday, Assam registered 3,415 cases. Delhi on Tuesday has 3,078 active Covid-19 cases, whereas, the active coronavirus cases in Assam now stands at 39,837.
