June 21: On Monday evening at around 7.30, a miscreant snatched away a mobile phone from the hands of a lady aged around 55 years from near Hospital Road to Ambicapatty, Silchar. She was on her way to Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). After snatching the mobile, the miscreant, ran towards Ambicapatty and went up the stairs in a building which houses Sanjay Karate School. The lady followed the boy and came after him.
On being asked, a man standing near that building told her that he had seen a boy running at a great speed and going upstairs. Immediately she raised a hue and cry. There are a few shops of medicine distributors nearby. Hearing her call, people from the medicine stores rushed out and went up in search of that thief. Meanwhile, sensing that he would be caught, he jumped from the terrace and went to the nearby building. But by that time, more people came out of their houses and ultimately the thief was caught.
On searching, the mobile which he stole from the lady was recovered. Further, some small containers containing suspected narcotics was also found in his pocket. Meanwhile, police was informed. Soon police forces reached the spot and took along the thief. When asked by the people, the thief revealed that he is a resident of Malini Beel area of Silchar.
