Cyclonic storm Yaas: ASDMA directs all DCs in Assam to keep vigil

May 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday morning said that Cyclone Yaas is going to intensify into a ‘Severe Cyclonic Storm’ in the next 24 hours and issued a rainfall warning for West Bengal and Odisha. It is in this context that a letter from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) was addressed to all Deputy Commissioners on Monday of light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in view of cyclonic storm Yaas lashing East Central Bay of Bengal on Wednesday and Thursday till midnight. The district administration were directed to keep vigil in the riverine and flood prone areas and also to keep their response teams ready.

The district authorities were further asked to keep the Fire and Emergency Services, NDRF, SDRF, Civil Defence and other response forces to remain on alert mode in the event of any exigency. Meanwhile, gusty wind accompanied by heavy rainfall lashed in various parts of South Assam’s Barak Valley on Monday evening.
