Karimganj administration appeals Muslim organisations not to congregate in Iddgahs due to COVID

May 11: The Karimganj district administration has urged the representatives of Muslim organisations to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols strictly during the celebration of ensuing Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a meeting convened by the district administration with the Muslim organisations, representatives of political parties and MLAs at District Library auditorium here on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner, Anbamuthan MP and Superintendent of Police, Mayank Kumar appealed to the representatives of Muslim organisations to prevail upon their community not to congregate in iddgahs or open spaces to offer namaj on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic situation and to follow the SoPs issued by the state government.

No description available.Representatives of Muslim organisations appealed to the DC to provide some relaxations in regard to offering prayers in iddgahs and open spaces during Eid. However, Deputy Commissioner, Anbamuthan told them that as per the SoPs assembling of five or more persons is not allowed in any religious gathering or festivity.

The Deputy Commissioner, the SP and the MLAs made pleas to the representatives of the Muslim organisations to ask members of their community to offer prayers preferably at home in view of the alarming pandemic situation in order to keep the disease at bay.

The representatives of the Muslim organisations urged the Deputy Commissioner to extend the duration of time for closure of establishments so that the members of the community get more time for shopping for the festivity. Anbamuthan said the administration is not the authority to provide any sort of relaxation and that such orders have to come from the state authorities.

Earlier, Editor, Dainik Nababarta Prasanga, Habibur Rahaman Choudhury, who is also the Secretary of Karimganj Iddgah Committee, Joint Secretary, Karimganj Town Iddgah Committee, Dewan Abdul Hekim, President, Karimganj Naduwa, Maulana Ashabuddin, Secretary, Asimganj Iddgah Committee, Kazi Atiqur Rahman, MLA, North Karimganj, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and MLA South Karimganj, Siddeque Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. The meeting was also attended, among others, by District Development Commissioner, Vikram Dev Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nisarg Hivare and Circle Officers.
