University buses will be irregular due to requisition for Panchayat polls

December 2: Panchat Election for the three districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi will take place on 9 December. For conducting the polls, administration requires a large number of vehicles. Usually, such vehicles are requisitioned from both the public and private sectors. Vehicles belonging to Assam University, Silchas has also been requisitioned by the district administration.

It is in this backdrop that a notification was issued by R.N. Purkayastha, Assistant Registrar (Estate) of Assam University, Silchar on Sunday, wherein he has stated “Due to requisition of university vehicles by the district administration for ensuing Panchayat Election, the regular plying of buses may be adversely effected.” He further appealed to the stakeholders to bear with the situation. A copy of the said letter was also marked to the General Secretary of AUTA, AUNTEA and AUSU.

As such, University Faculty, Staff and Students need to make alternative arrangement till the Panchayat polls are over.
