TDC & Law College students of Barak Valley demands for both online & offline mode of exam

Feb. 24: The TDC (CBCS) Odd Semester Final Examinations, 2021 will commence from 9 March as per the exam schedule announced on 24 February. The examination will be conducted only in offline mode. However, the students of a number of Colleges in Barak Valley affiliated to Assam University have raised the demand of conducting the TDC (CBCS) Odd Semester examination in blended mode, that is, in both online and offline mode. It needs mention here that due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent nationwide lockdown, the TDC Even Semester Examination was conducted by Assam University in blended mode.

A joint memorandum in this regard was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar by the students of Cachar College, SS College Hailakandi, NC College Badarpur, RK Nagar College, Radhamadhab College, MHC Memorial College and AK Chanda Law College. A copy of the memorandum was also given to the Vice Chancellor, Registrar and Controller of Examinations of Assam University.

In the absence of the Deputy Commissioner, the delegation of the college students met Rajib Roy, ADC Education and had a detailed discussion with him. Later on speaking to way2barak, ADC Rajib Roy said, “Yes, a group of students met me today with a memorandum wherein they raised the demand of conducting TDC Odd Semester Examinations in both online and offline mode by Assam University. Actually, Assam University is an autonomous institution and so I have told them to take it up with the university authorities. Further, I have also asked the students to provide me the relevant notifications in this connection. I had a preliminary talk with the Registrar. We won’t interfere with the functioning of the university, but at the same time I intimated the Registrar to conduct the examination as per Covid protocol.”

“The Registrar informed me that the university was conducting the PG examination in online mode whereas the other exams will be conducted only in offline mode. Let the students provide me with relevant notifications issued by the university, then I will have another round of talks with the Registrar,” added the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education).

In the memorandum, the students stated that the pandemic situation augmented by COVID-19 is not over yet and as such, conducting the exam in online mode will ensure the safety of both the students and the teachers. They further added that as the Covid vaccine has not yet been administered to the students and the teachers, so it is very difficult to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols and sit for offline examinations.

They further alleged that when the University authorities are considering to conduct the final examination of the PG and other courses conducted in the campus in offline mode, so the same benefit should be provided to the college students also. They appealed to the Vice Chancellor to give the opportunity of appearing in online mode of examination until and unless the students and the teachers are vaccinated.

While speaking to the media, Rajat Roy a student of AK Chanda Law College told that if the students of affiliated colleges and law college don’t get justice then they will organise a protest movement.
