Padmashree Dr. Ravi Kannan received COVID vaccine on Monday

Jan. 25: Along with the rest of the country, COVID-19 vaccination began in Assam also on 16 January, 2021 at 65 centres. COVISHIELD vaccine is administered at 59 centres and COVAXIN at 6 centres across the state. In Barak Valley too, the process of vaccination is going on. Renowned oncologist, Padmashree Dr. Ravi Kannan received the COVID-19 Vaccine on Monday at Cachar Cancer Hospital, Silchar. 

Taking to its twitter handle, National Health Mission (NHM) Assam on Monday wrote, “Padmashree Dr. Ravi Kannan received the COVID Vaccine today at Cachar Cancer Hospital, #Silchar District.” The post was liked by Union Minister of Health Dr. Harsh Vardhan, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma among others.

Silchar was also recently in the national news, however, for negative reasons. A total of 1000 doses of Covishield vaccine have got spoiled at a hospital in Cachar district as the covid shots were stored in sub-zero temperatures. The incident that happened at Silchar Medical College and Hospital was reported to the health department on January 16, and came to light on 18 January. The district immunization officer informed that the vaccine which were to be stored at 2 to 8 degrees were partially frozen at -5 to -6 degrees.
