As part of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Assam Govt to gift khadi clothes to employees

Jan. 9: In an exemplary move, Assam government has decided to gift its employees khadi clothes as part of 150th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi. The state government will provide khadi shirt, endi shawl and endi stole to grade IV male and female employees of the state in a phased manner. The move will empower local weavers as nearly 80,000 khadi shirts, stoles and shawls would be required to be knitted in the first phase to gift the government employees.

Informing about this move, CMO Assam in a tweet on Friday wrote, “As part of 150th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi, CM Shri @sarbanandsonwal directed officials from Handloom & Textile Dept in a meeting in Guwahati to provide Khadi shirt, Endi shawl & Endi stole to Grade IV employees of GoA.”

A meeting in this connection was chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati to expedite the process of giving free khadi clothes to the state government employees. The first phase will be started in the month of January 2021. CM Sonowal asked minister for handloom and textile Ranjit Dutta to ensure its successful and expeditious implementation.
