HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee lends support to ‘Bharat Bandh’ on 8 Dec

Dec. 7: The Revival Committee & Joint Action Committee of Recognised Union, Nagaon & Cachar Paper Mills has supported the ‘Bharat Bandh’ on 8 December convened by the protesting farmers against the 3 farm laws. On behalf of the Union, its President Manabendra Chakraborty said, “The present government passed Farmer’s Bill in absolute autocratic manner without any discussion in the Parliament. Thus, the govt deliberately disobeyed the basic norms of democracy. On scrutiny, it is found that the new law has no rule to Protect MSP (Minimum Support Price) for Farmers, therefore there is every possibility that the Farmers who feed the nation would be inhumanly exploited by the corporate houses.”

Ananda Bordoloi, General Secretary, JACRU said, “Moreover, since the stock limit on essential commodities has been withdrawn, the big corporate cronies would have unlimited rights to stock foods items & will establish absolute monopoly in price control & the citizens of the nation irrespective of their status would be victimised by those cronies by imposing abnormal price on all food commodities.”

“We have seen in the HPC Paper Mills issue where the Government by suspending production at Cachar Paper Mill extended ample opportunities to few private parties thereby destroying two heavy national industries. Innumerable youths of Assam lost employment, 76 workers died under various compelling circumstances due to non-payment of salary since last 47 months. The Government lost all credibility & people lost faith on this Government,” quipped Mr. Chakraborty.

The Union President therefore in an appeal to the people said, “The Citizens has to be united to save India from the rule of few corporate houses & to resist all illegal acts. We feel  that it is essential to extend solidarity to the Food Soldiers, who are feeding the entire nation. Therefore, we fervently appeal all to resort to nationwide strike on 8 December, 2020.”
