Cash more than ₹5 crore recovered in connection with SI recruitment scam
Oct. 10: Cash amounting to Rs. 5,36,88,640 was recovered in searches at Bongaigaon, Barpeta, and Chirang districts in Assam on Saturday. This has got probable connection with the Assam Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam. Confirming the same, Assam’s Additional Director General of Police (DGP) G P Singh in a tweet wrote, “An amount of INR 5,36,88,640 was recovered in searches at Bongaigaon, Barpeta and Chirang district. The money is suspected of being connected to CID Case No 21/2020 (SI Recruitment Case).”

Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Saturday announced that a total of 45 arrests have been made so far in connection. This includes the two main accused — DIG (retd) PK Dutta, and former BJP leader Diban Deka. Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “Rs. 1.70 crore was recovered from Barpeta, Rs. 3.4 crore from Bongaigaon, Rs. 3 lakh from Chirang. On the other hand, Rs. 15 lakh has been recovered a short while ago from another location. So roughly, around 5.2 crore has been recovered.”
