Barak Valley registers 279 positive cases on Saturday

August 8: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. However, on Friday, the number of fresh cases came somewhat down in comparison to the last few days. A total of 279 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 371 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 190 positive cases   (It was 250 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 52 positive cases (It was 58 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 37 positive cases (It was 63 on Friday)

A total of 18 persons tested positive as per the 1st Slot of RT-PCR test, 6 persons in 2nd slot, 6 persons again in 3rd slot and 2 in the 4th slot. As such, 32 tested positive as per the results made available of the 4 slots of swab test results. Further, another, 158 were found positive in the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Hence, a total of of 190 persons were detected positive in Cachar district on Saturday.

Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert also informed that 2136 persons were tested (RAT) on Saturday. Mr. Choudhury said, “We hoped to do more tests today but as because some of the technicians of mobile medical unit had been put under containment, so we could do the testing of only 2136 persons. Further, due to weekend lockdown, people came out in less numbers.” Mr Choudhury informed that till Friday a total of 2661 patients tested positive. There were 1012 active cases in Cachar. 1643 patients were discharged and the district recorded a total of 6 deaths so far.  With 190 more cases on Saturday, the district tally went upto 2851.

In the 1st slot, 18 persons tested positive in Cachar. Out of them, 7 of them are from SMC. AF Station, Kumbhirgram. They are asymptomatic but were infected as they came in direct contact with high risk lab confirmed case. A female from 1AF Kumbhirgram also tested positive. An army man from Lailapur Military Camp was found positive during the day. A 52-year-old man from Bilpar, Padmanagar, Lane-3 with Influenza Like illness symptom was detected COVID-19 positive. A 40 years old healthcare worker from Atal Basti (employee of SMCH Blood Bank) was detected positive. Apart from them, positive cases were also found in many other parts of the district including Meherpur, Darmikhal, Bhakatpur, Kanakpur Pt-2, Puticherra and Bhubondar.

In the 2nd slot, swab results of 6 persons from Cachar were found positive. All six of them were infected as they came in direct contact with high risk lab confirmed case. Out of them, 2 persons, a 17-year-old male and a 27-year-old female are from Itkhola. A 51 years old female from Meherpur was also tested positive. Another, 42-year-old male from Radhamadhab Road was also included in the positive list. A BSF personnel from Dholcherra was detected positive.

The 3rd slot also contained particulars of 6 persons who were tested positive on Saturday. Three from a same family at Durgapally tested positive. A 13-year-old female from Nibedita Nari Sangstha was also found positive. A 32 years old health-worker from SMCH was detected coronavirus positive. Last in this list was a 53 years old male from Patimara Tea Estate. All of them are asymptomatic. They also came in direct contact with high risk lab confirmed case.

Two positive cases were reported in the 4th slot. They are a health care worker from B.SC Nursing College & Hostel, Ghungoor and a 45-year-old man from Itkhola.

On Saturday, 37 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 1285. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 37 positive cases detected on Saturday, 30 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). A total of 435 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with majority of them sans travel history. Algapur MLA, Nizamuddin Choudhury has been detected corona positive along with members of his family, driver and PSOs on Saturday. MLA Choudhury and his family have been kept under home isolation.

Karimganj district registered 52 new COVID-19 positive cases on Saturday. This takes the district tally to 1144.

Apart from the valley, a total of 2218 persons tested positive in Assam on Saturday, thereby taking the state tally to 57,714. As of now, there are 16,980 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1782 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 40,591 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 8 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 140.

India’s COVID-19 tally reached 20,88,61 today, with 61,537 cases being reported in a day. Recoveries rose to 13,78,105 including 48,901 in past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data. There are 6,19,088 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country presently while the recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has gone up to 67.62%. 933 patients succumbed to coronavirus infection in past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 42,518.
