No major mistakes in COVID data entry, don't demoralise the health workers: Himanta

July 5: “The situation is very critical in Guwahati. It’s time for all of us to extra vigilant. We have now formally entered the real phase of pandemic,” said State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing held in Guwahati on Sunday.

Speaking during the press briefing, the minister further stated that Assam will be completing 5 lakh test test in next few days. He urged upon all not to spread misinformation about COVID-19. He stated that a section of the media are spreading false information regarding the data of positive and negative patients. He said, “The margin of error while entering the data is very less. Even certain news channels and newspapers sometimes comes with some minor errors.” Saying so, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that people should not make a mountain out of a mole.

The Health Minister than presented data of the tests done in various ICMR certified labs of the state. Citing statistics, he said that the mistakes which were done were very less in comparison to the huge data entered. In Assam, 51 total wrong data entry was made out of more than 4 lakh samples tested. He cited the following data:

  • Jorhat Medical college & Hospital (JMCH): tests done 89,508: only 01 wrong data entry.
  • Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH): tests done 38,125: all entry correct
  • Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH): tests done 77,372: number of wrong entry 40
  • Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH): tests done 28,708: only 03 wrong entry
  • Tezpur Medical College & Hospital (TMCH): tests done 41,107: only 01 wrong entry
  • Diphu Medical college and Hospital Lab: tests done 8,000: only 03 wrong entry
  • Regional medical research Centre: tests done 38,842: 03 wrong entry

The minister further informed that 81,979 samples have been tested in Guwahati alone under the community survillance program. During the press briefing on Sunday afternoon, Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that till then 125 positive cases were reported during the day.
