In view of the grim situation, we need to be hawk-eyed, asserts Himanta

May 30: The number of coronavirus cases are rising in the state by leaps and bounds. The nationwide lockdown since the last week of March has led many stranded outside Assam. With the easing of lockdown regulations, people stuck outside the state are returning back by means of air, road and railways. This has become a prime concern for the state government as majority of the positive cases detected now are those who are entering Assam from other states.

The spike in the new cases has made the state government to adopt steps for its containment. State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma put stress on strict quarantine for those who are now coming to Assam. On Saturday, Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Kaziranga University Quarantine Centre at Jorhat along with Ministers- Pijush Hazarika, Atul Bora, Kamakhya Tasha and Topon kr. Gogoi to take stock of preparedness, facilities & arrangements. The minister said, “In view of the grim situation, we need to be hawk-eyed.”

Himanta along with the ministers also visited Jorhat Medical College & Hospital. We interacted with district administration & doctors on current COVID-19 situation & also monitored the discharge of 4 patients. Taking to his twitter handle on Saturday, Himanta Biswa wrote, “Pleased to announce that CSIR-NEIST COVID-19 Testing Laboratory will be functional now in Jorhat.” He inaugurated the testing lab during the day. 

Later on during the day, Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with Golaghat dist administration. He also visited Golaghat Civil Hospital and advised everyone to be ready to deal with emerging situation and use caution in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
