COVID-19 protocol violated: 27 shops in Silchar ordered to be shut during lockdown

May 12: In the last two days, Cachar District Administration has taken a bold step in implementation of COVID-19 norms. On 10 May, a medicine store near Cachar College, Silchar was ordered to remain shut for violation of Covid protocol. A day after that, by two separate orders, a total of 26 more shops were also shut.

The orders issued by Sumit Sattavan, Additional Deputy Commissioner cum CEO of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar stated that as per report submitted by the Executive Magistrate, Cachar regarding non-abiding by the COVID-19 protocols/ norms by the staff & others of the following shops and the undersigned has decided that the following shops will remain closed till the lockdown period ends for greater public interest. The owner of the following shops will not be allowed under any circumstances to open his shop or sell things by any means. It was further stated that any violation of the above mentioned terms and conditions will be punishable offence under 51(b) of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and under section 188/270 of Indian Penal Code.

The shut down orders were issued against the following shops:

1. Drugs Corner, Near Cachar College, Silchar.
2. M/S. Purbanchal Pharmacy, Tarapur
3. Shubham Medical Stores, Station Road, Tarapur
4. Maa Bipadnashini Medico Station Road, Tarapur
5. New Dhar Jewellers Station Road, Tarapur
6. Bijoy Stores Station Road, Tarapur
7. Care Well Medicos Station Road, Tarapur
8. Dey’s Ayurvedic Hub Station Road, Tarapur
9. Shree Automobiles, Itkhola Road
10. Joy Matadi Bhandar, Rongpur
11. New Box Stall No. 22/C, College Road Area
12. Old Box Stall No. 28, College Road Area
13. Ananta Enterprise, College Road Area
14. Gopal Food Centre, College Road Area
15. Chandan’s, College Road Area
