Brother pays tribute to his ‘Dada’ on his death anniversary by serving food to the needy

May 9: Seven years ago, on this day, Amaresh Choudhury (Tubu) passed away leaving behind a family whom he loved and cared from the core of his heart. Death at such an early age was indeed a loss which was beyond any compensation for his near and dear ones. Every year, this day haunts the memory of his family members. 9 may, 2020 was no such exception. But in one respect, the day was different. Saikat Chowdhury (Chotan) planned a tribute for his dear ‘Dada’ in a different way this year.

The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic followed by subsequent nationwide lockdown has brought life to a standstill. All economic activities were deactivated. The daily wage earners were the worst sufferers. Without work, they were deprived of two square meals a day. This picture of hunger and starvation caught the imagination of Saikat. He at once made a plan to do some noble needs dedicating this to the fond memory of his beloved ‘Dada’.

A day before, Saikat Chowdhury went to the market and purchased grocery and vegetables. A cook was also managed. Rice, dal, mixed vegetable, egg curry was cooked. Disposable containers were purchased. Saikat’s family members and friends sat together and packed the containers. Soon 300 food packets were ready. The containers were put inside cartoons. An auto-rickshaw was called. The cartoons were put in it. It was around half-an-hour journey from Public School Road to Tapoban Nagar, where people mostly belonging to poor and needy section resides.

Saikat was helped by his wife Sangeeta Chowdhury, Triya Choudhury, Rajesh Das and Subrata Paul in the distribution of these food packets. Soon, 300 children, aged, women and men assembled there in systematic queue and the packets were handed over to them maintaining the norms of social distancing. Later on sharing his experience, Saikat Chowdhury said, “These are the living Gods, who are hungry. My ‘Dada’s’ soul will rest in peace when from the other world he would observe that the hungry people eats a stomach full of meal.”
