২৯ সেপ্টেম্বরঃকাছাড় জেলায় চাঞ্চল্যকর হত্যাকাণ্ড। খুন হলেন জয়শ্রী টি কোম্পানির লাবক বাগানের সিনিয়র অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট ম্যানেজার সন্দীপ সিং তানোয়ার। দুষ্কৃতীরা তার মুখ পুরো থেতলে দিয়েছে। শুক্রবার রাতের ঘটনা। সন্দীপবাবুর স্ত্রী অসুস্থতা বোধ করছিলেন। মোটর সাইকেল নিয়ে তিনি বের হন বাগানের কম্পাউন্ডারকে ডেকে আনতে। কোয়ার্টারে এনে স্ত্রীর চিকিতসা করিয়ে তাঁকে বাড়ি ফিরিয়ে দেন। ফেরার পথেই দুষ্কৃতীদের হামলার মুখে পড়েন। তখন রাত প্রায় সাড়ে ১১টা। অনেকক্ষণ ধরে বাড়িতে না পৌঁছনোয় তাঁর স্ত্রী কম্পাউন্ডারকে ফোন করেন। অন্যরাও বেরিয়ে পড়েন তাঁর খোঁজে। পথেই এক কালভার্টের পাশে রক্তাক্ত মৃতদেহ উদ্ধার হয়। পাশে পড়েছিল মোটর সাইকেলটি। পুলিশ তদন্ত নেমেছে। শনিবার গিয়েছে ডগ স্কোয়াডও।

অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার ভিভি রাকেশ রেড্ডি বলেন, সব দিক মাথায় রেখে তদন্তের কাজ এগিয়ে চলেছে। প্রাথমিক তদন্তে এ কথা নিশ্চিত হওয়া গিয়েছে যে, পুজোর মুখে এমন ঘটনা ঘটলেও এর সঙ্গে বোনাস বা মজুরির সম্পর্ক নেই। ফলে পুরনো বিবাদের জেরেই এই ঘটনা ঘটেছে। বাগান পঞ্চায়েতের সদস্য সন্তোষ ঘাটোয়ারকে প্রাথমিক তদন্তে মুখ্য অভিযুক্ত ধরে পুলিশ এগোচ্ছে। সন্তোষ মাসছয়েক আগে সন্দীপবাবুকে দেখে নেওয়ার কড়া হুমকি দিয়েছিল। তাই তাকে থানায় আটকে জেরা করা হচ্ছে। সঙ্গে আটক করা হয়েছে, সুখমোহন তন্তুবায় এবং সন্তোষ লায়ককেও। ঘটনাস্থল থেকে সন্দীপবাবুর মোবাইল, স্লিপার এবং মোটর সাইকেলটি বাজেয়াপ্ত করা হয়েছে। তুলে আনা হয়েছে একটি রক্তমাখা পাথরও।

সিনিয়র অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট ম্যানেজারের মৃত্যুতে দেওয়ান গোষ্ঠীর সব বাগানেই শনিবার শোকের আবহ। তবে এই ঘটনা ঘিরে বাগানে কোনও উত্তেজনা নেই বলেই পুলিশের দাবি।

উত্তর প্রদেশের বাসিন্দা সন্দীপবাবু এক দশকের বেশি সময় ধরে কাছাড় জেলার বিভিন্ন বাগানে কাজ করেছেন। বছর তিনেক ধরে লাবকেই। স্ত্রী ও দুই সন্তানকে নিয়ে বাগানের কোয়ার্টারেই থাকেন।

টি অ্যাসোসিয়েশন অব ইন্ডিয়া (টাই)-র বরাক ভ্যালি সচিব শরদিন্দু ভট্টাচার্য বলেন, এই প্রথম উপত্যকায় কোনও বাগান ম্যানেজার বা অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট ম্যানেজার খুন হলেন। তাই পুলিশকে গুরুত্ব দিয়ে এর তদন্ত করতে হবে। নইলে চা শিল্পে এর প্রভাব পড়তে পারে বলে আশঙ্কা করছেন তিনি। অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার রেড্ডি জানিয়েছেন, মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সর্বানন্দ সোনোয়াল নিজে এই খুনের ঘটনায় উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করেছেন। দ্রুত খুনিদের খুঁজে বের করতে নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন।

September 20: A sensational murder case occurred in Cachar district. Sandip Singh Tanowar, Senior Assistant Manager of Labac Tea Estate under Jayashree Tea Company was killed. Miscreants have deformed his face. The incident took place on Friday night. Sandip Singh’s wife was feeling unwell. As such, Sandip went out on his motorbike to call the compounder of the garden. The compounder came along with Sandip Singh to his quarter and examined his wife. After that, Sandip again dropped the compounder in his bike. While returning, Sandip fell in the hands of the miscreants. It was around 11.30 in the night.

As he was too late in returning home, his wife called the compounder. But the compounder informed her that Sandip has left long ago. She then raised a hue and cry. People of the garden then came and went out to search him. They found his body lying near a culvert in a pool of flood. His face was disfigured beyond recognition. His motorbike was lying near his deadbody. Police has started investigation of the incident. On Saturday, dog squad also visited the spot. But still now police could not find any clue.

Additional Police Super, Rakesh Reddy said that investigation is on keeping all options open. Preliminary investigation revealed that though this incident occurred just on the eve of Durga Puja, but it has go got no relation with bonus or salary of the staff and labourers. As such, he feels that the incident might have occurred due to some old rivalry. Police has called 3 suspects and are now interrogating them. Panchayat Member of the Garden, Santosh Ghatowar is the prime suspect in this murder and so he was arrested by the police. This man has been learnt to have threatened to kill Mr.Sandip around 6 months ago. Along with him, 2 more suspects have been arrested. They are Sukhmohan Tantubay and Santosh Layok. Police have recovered the motorbike and mobile of the deceased from the spot of murder. A blood smeared stone has also been seized by the police.

Sandip Singh Tanowar belongs to Uttar Pradesh, but he has been working in various tea gardens of Cachar since last 10 years. He is in Labak Tea since last 3 years along with his wife and two kids.The death of the Senior Assistant Manager was mourned by all the gardens of Dewan group.

Sarodindu Bhattacharjee, Secretary of Cachar chapter of Tea Association of India (TAI) said that this is for the first time that a person of the rank of Manager or Assistant Manager was killed in the valley. He urged the police to continue with the investigation with apt seriousness. He also said that if the culprits are not arrested than the incident will have a negative impact in the tea industry of the valley.
