Student leader Prashanta Bhattacharjee arrested on charges of misbehaving during the bandh called after Molin’s death

২০ নভেম্বরঃ ছাত্রনেতা প্রশান্ত ভট্টাচার্যকে পুলিশ বুধবার গ্রেফতার করেছে। তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ, সাংবাদিক মলিন শর্মার মৃত্যুর ঘটনার পরে শিলচরে যে বনধ পালিত হয়, সেদিন তিনি দলবল নিয়ে আদালতে ঢুকে পড়েন। অ্যাডিশনাল সিজেএমের সঙ্গে দুর্ব্যবহার করেন। বৃহস্পতিবার তাকে আদালতে পাঠানো হবে।

পুলিশের দাবি, বনধের দিনে আদালত চত্বরের বিভিন্ন ভিডিও ক্লিপিংস দেখে দোষীদের শনাক্ত করা হয়েছে। একাধিক ভিডিও ক্লিপিংসে এআইডিএসও নেতা প্রশান্ত ভট্টাচার্যকে নানা আপত্তিকর মন্তব্য করতে শোনা গিয়েছে। তাই মামলার তদন্তে নেমে পুলিশ তাকে গ্রেফতার করেছে।

তাকে গ্রেফতারের ঘটনায় সমাজের বিভিন্ন মহলে প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখা দিয়েছে। অনেকেই পুলিশের বিরুদ্ধে নানা কটুক্তি করছেন। এর মধ্যে বিশেষভাবে শোনা যাচ্ছে, খুনে গাড়িটিকে আজও ধরতে সক্ষম হয়নি পুলিশ, গ্রেফতার করতে পারেনি গাড়িচালককে। কিন্তু বনধের দিনের ঘটনা নিয়ে ধরপাকড় অব্যাহত রয়েছে। তাঁরা মলিন শর্মার মৃত্যুর জন্য দায়ী গাড়িটিকে শনাক্ত করার জন্য জোরালো দাবি জানান।

বুধবার শহরে দুই অনুষ্ঠানে এই দাবি জোরালোভাবে উচ্চারিত হয়। বরাক উপত্যকা বঙ্গ সাহিত্য ও সংস্কৃতি সম্মেলনের বইমেলায় নবীন প্রজন্মের প্রতিনিধিরা একযোগে বলেন, আজও কেন পুলিশ গাড়িটিকে ধরতে পারল না। একইভাবে গান্ধীভবনে আয়োজিত সঙ্গীতায়ন অ্যাকাডেমির মলিন শর্মা স্মরণে শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি অনুষ্ঠানে বারবার এ-কথা ধ্বনিত হয়।

November 20: On Wednesday, police arrested student leader Prashanta Bhattacharjee. It was alleged that, Prashanta entered the court premises with a group of persons on the day when a bandh was convened after the tragic demise of photo journalist Molin Sharma. It was also alleged that he had misbehaved with the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate. He will be produced in the court on Thursday.

Police claimed that on the basis of a numerous video clips, Prashanta Bhattacharjee was arrested They alleged that in the video clips, Prashanta was heard making many objectionable comments. So on the basis of the investigation, they have arrested him.

However, the arrest of Prashanta has led to severe reaction among the people of this town. Many are passing comments against the police. Some of them said that the police has still now failed to trace the killer truck and its driver but is continuing to arrest those involved with the bandh. They raised strong demand of tracing the vehicle which killed Molin Sharma.

On Wednesday, this demand was strongly raised in two separate programmes held at Silchar. In the ongoing Book Fair organised by Barak Upottoka Banga Sahutya O Sanskritik Sammelan, youth representatives demanded in unison to immediately trace the vehicle which crushed Molin under its wheels. Similar demand was also raised in a programme organised by Sangeetayan Academy in memory of Molin at Gandhi Bhavan.
