MLA Kamalakhya went to house of accident victims, mother of deceased cries & alleges ‘hijacking of the dead body’

November 4: “I have lost my entire world. My daughter has left me for good. I will never get her back in my life. I was not allowed too see my daughter even for once. We could do nothing. We could not even perform the last rites of the deceased as per Hindu rituals. Our Hindu sastras specify that before cremation, the dead body needs to be given a shower. But alas! we were not allowed to do this. Her body was wrapped in a black polythene. They even did not allow us to put a cloth over that polythene or light incense sticks. My daughter’s dead body was as if hijacked,” said the mother of Sonali Das whose daughter met with a tragic accident on 30 October, 2019 at Meherpur.

The loud cry and tears in the eyes of a mother pierced through the hearts of all present in the house of the deceased which gave looks of poverty. It was Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha, MLA of North Karimganj who went to meet the victims family at Meherpur Durgapally on Monday. He was accompanied by Sanjeev Roy, Subrata Deb and Bappi Routh. The shrieks which came out from the voice of a mother emitted rays of helplessness.

Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha was briefed about the sequence of incidents which occured after the death of the two girls of nearby families. One of the relatives present there alleged that Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque and MP Rajdeep Roy were not at all willing to allow them to see the deceased body or observe any rituals. Due to the direction of these politicians, many others who came there also started showing attitude.

They also told the MLA that both Deputy Speaker and Silchar MP were there like shadow since the two girls died. They narrated how both of them reached their house very early in the morning on 31 October and seemed to be in a great hurry to finish the post-mortem and cremation. The mother of the deceased also accused that the political leaders present there told them that the dead bodies will be brought by an ambulance and during the final journey to the crematorium, the bodies will be placed in the special mortuary van. But in reality the dead bodies of the 2 girls were taken in an ambulance. “The dead bodies of our daughters were hijacked. We seemed very helpless before such powerful persons,” cried the mother.

MLA Dey Purakayastha expressed his deep anguish over the act that the families of the two deceased were not allowed to perform their daughter’s last rites according to their religious beliefs. He also informed that he will urge upon the government to quickly transfer the assured ex-gratia amount to the family of the deceased. Later on addressing the media, the MLA said, “He will definitely raise this issue in the state Assembly. I also could not understand the reason behind this mysterious hurry exhibited for cremation of the deceased. The truck which killed the girls has definite connection with syndicate. All these days we heard about coal, beetle nut etc. syndicate, the latest addition is poppy seeds (posto) syndicate. I will ask the government in the floor of the House to unravel the mystery surrounding this entire incident.”
