SMCH to get a new block with 500-bed capacity with a project cost of ₹ 96.05 crore: Himanta
August 4: It’s a good news for the people of Barak Valley. Taking to his twitter handle, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote that “The hospital building of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) has become very old and one portion has almost become irreparable.” He also expressed his concern about the heavy load of patients at SMCH.

The Health Minister further tweeted, “Keeping in mind the patient load, today we’ve approved a new hospital with 500-bed capacity for Silchar Medical College with a project cost of ₹ 96.05 cr.”
Further, in his tweet, Minister Biswa Sarma also posted some pictures of the new block which would come up very soon. The decision of the state government in upgrading SMCH was welcomed by the people of the valley.
