Aminul Haque Laskar assumes charge as Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly

July 31: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s MLA from Sonai officially took charge as the Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. It needs mention here that the post of deputy speaker was lying vacant since June 2nd, 2019 after Kripanath Malla won the Karimganj Lok Sabha seat.

Laskar was the only muslim MLA from Assam to be elected to the Assembly on a BJP ticket. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated him on being elevated to the post of Deputy Speaker. Taking to twitter, CM Sonowal wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to Sonai MLA Shri Aminul Haque Laskar on being unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly.
