World Day Against Child Labour observed at Silchar

June 12: World Day Against Child Labour was observed by Cachar District Administration in collaboration with Labour Welfare Department and District Child Protection Unit  on 12 June. The programme was organised at the conference hall of Cachar Zilla Parishad,. Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar presided over the meeting. MLA Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul was the Chief Guest of the occasion.

Speaking during the occasion, Laya Madduri said, ” No children should be denied the right to education, which is a punishable offence that can lead to imprisonment of 6 months under the Act.” During her speech Laya Madduri, IAS also introduced Jui Das, a child labourer being rescued by the District Administration who is currently studying at Durgabari training centre. She said, “Child labour, child abuse, child trafficking and child marriage are interconnected and in order to eradicate child labour all these need to be dealt together.” The programme concluded with taking of Oath that no one will employ child labour and also deter others from doing so.

Dilip Kumar Paul, Rupali pegu, Secretary of District Legal Service Authority, Partha Sarathi Bhattacharje and Social Worker Bithika Acharya also spoke on the occasion. The programme was attended by Dibakar Doley, ACS, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad Cachar, Rasaraj Das, Project Director, DRDA,  Abhilash Barnawal, IAS (P), Assistant commissioners, Cachar, Ms. Maria Tanim, ACS, Assistant Commissioner, Cachar, and other Government Officials and all the ASHA and Anganwadi workers of Cachar District. Various organisations like Rotary Club, Inner Wheel Club, Silchar also participated in the programme.
