Sarma Hits Out At Rahul Gandhi
way2barak, October 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sharply criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over allegations surrounding election results and the ongoing controversy over electoral rolls. Defending the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, Sarma questioned why the opposition was objecting to election outcomes in some states while accepting results elsewhere under the same Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. The Assam Chief Minister argued that the SIR process is necessary to remove ineligible names from voter lists and strengthen electoral integrity. He called for such exercises to be conducted every five years and announced that the BJP would organise peaceful marches across Assam in support of democratic institutions.
