Vice Chancellor Prof. Bibhas recommends making Yoga a daily habit; GC University and Niramaya host national workshop in Silchar

Way 2 barak, June 7 : As part of the upcoming International Day of Yoga celebrations, a National Workshop on Yoga was organized in Silchar. The inaugural session of the workshop on Wednesday was presided over by Professor Niranjan Roy, the Vice Chancellor of Gurucharan University. Professor Bibhas Deb, the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University in Agartala, attended the event as the keynote speaker. The technical sessions featured Dr. Sunil Sharma, Assistant Professor at the Center for Yoga Wellness, Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Shatakshi Bhattacharjee, Director of Niramaya, as resource persons. Other notable dignitaries present included Sekhar Chakraborty, Chairman of the Executive Council of Niramaya; Dr. Abhijit Nath, Academic Registrar of GC University; Dr. Jaydeep Paul, Dean of Students’ Welfare; and Chief Coordinator Yoga Acharya Rahul.

The proceedings of the event were anchored by Dr. Manisha Goswami. More than two hundred participants, including students and research scholars, attended the workshop, while Himaghna Bhattacharjee, Rakhi Chakraborty, Mridusmita, and Ratul Chakraborty served as demonstrators.
Dr. Abhijit Nath delivered the welcome address at the commencement of the program. Speaking on the occasion, the keynote speaker and distinguished guest, Vice Chancellor Dr. Bibhas Deb, emphasized that there is no substitute for practicing yoga in today’s world. He asserted that to keep oneself physically and mentally active and healthy, yoga must be incorporated into one’s daily routine.

Reflecting on the past, Dr. Deb noted that Niramoy is currently promoting yoga education across Northeast India with great success. He fondly recalled that Niramaya institutional journey of spreading yoga education actually began during his tenure as Principal, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the then Gurucharan College. He expressed immense pride that the initiative has now expanded significantly, culminating in a national-level workshop in collaboration with Gurucharan University.
In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor Professor Niranjan Roy explained the deeper significance of the yoga workshop. He highlighted that Gurucharan University is giving special priority to yoga education in alignment with the National Education Policy. Professor Roy also stated that the university is actively making arrangements to provide better facilities and opportunities for students interested in pursuing yoga education. The workshop concluded with the presentation of mementos to all the performers and participating educational institutions, and certificates were distributed to all the trainees.
