Third mega health camp in Lakhipur under ‘Seva Hi Samarpan’ Initiative

“Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s vision ensures that no citizen is left behind when it comes to healthcare access,” Minister Kaushik Rai made this statement while launching the camp, organised under the state-wide ‘Seva Hi Samarpan , Seva Saptah’ programme to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday through public service.

The minister highlighted that Cachar district has been hosting a series of such health camps since September 17, beginning in Dholai constituency, progressing through Silchar, and culminating at Lakhipur. He emphasised that the initiative goes beyond medical outreach, reflecting the government’s commitment to the health, dignity, and well-being of every citizen.

 Minister Kaushik Rai underscored a significant aspect of the programme: comprehensive health screening for children aged 0–18 years, covering 59 identified diseases.

“This ensures early diagnosis and treatment, protecting families and building a healthy future generation. It is the main objective of this mega health camp,” he said.

The minister also distributed disability certificates to children with special needs, highlighting the inclusive and holistic nature of the initiative.

Expressing satisfaction over the inclusion of marginalised communities, such as tea garden workers and rural families, Minister Rai stated, “Coming from this land, I understand the hardships these families face. Our government’s mission is clear,no one will be left behind in building a healthy Assam.”

The Minister also appreciated the seamless coordination of the Cachar district administration and health department, specifically acknowledging District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, SMCH Principal Dr Bhaskar Gupta, frontline health workers, and members of Panchayati Raj Institutions for mobilising children and ensuring smooth operations.

While speaking at the event, Cachar DC Mridul Yadav congratulated the health department for providing comprehensive services and pledged continued administrative support for future health melas. “This camp exemplifies teamwork. We remain committed to supporting the health department in fulfilling these vital objectives,” he added.

Cachar SSP Numal Mahatta also spoke on the occasion and commended the state government for organising such humanitarian initiatives in an era of increasingly commercialised healthcare. “The coordination between health workers, police, and local administration ensured a safe and disciplined environment,” he mentioned.

Lakhipur CO-District Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Hazarika highlighted the meticulous planning behind the event, noting that the overwhelming turnout demonstrated public faith in government initiatives. SMCH Principal Dr Bhaskar Gupta assured attendees that the medical college’s specialists from Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, and other departments were fully engaged and ready to provide complete treatment for referred cases.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Joint Director of Health Services Dr Shibananda Roy described the initiative as more than a mere health camp. “This is a movement for universal healthcare, reaching every last person and building a healthier society,” he said, praising state leadership and district administration for effective implementation.

Notably, the mega health camp witnessed approximately 10,000 attendees, with over 7,725 health screenings conducted, including the targeted child screening for ages 0–18 years. Around 538 patients were referred for advanced treatment at SMCH or other specialised centres.

It is worthy to mention that the venue featured 83 counters, including 27 specialist doctor chambers, 30 registration desks, and 15 referral counters. Services extended beyond medical care to include facilities for Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, Ayushman Bharat Card, UDID (disability certificates), immunisation, and Fit India Camp activities. A dedicated play zone for children added a family-friendly dimension, reflecting the administration’s holistic approach to community engagement.

The program was also attended by CEO Zilla Parishad Pranab Kumar Bora, Lakshyajit Gogoi, Branch Officer Health Lakhipur, and other dignitaries.
