All India Inter NIT Cricket and Chess Tournament for Faculty and Staff

way2barak, December 14: NIT Silchar is hosting the All India Inter NIT Cricket and Chess Tournament 2024 for Faculty and Staff from 14-17 December, 2024 as part of celebration of Fit India Week under Ministry of Education, Govt of India. The Inaugural Ceremony of the four day sports extravaganza was held on 13.12.2024 at 6:00 PM at the Sports Complex of the institute. 22 NITs across the country, from NIT J&K to NIT Calicut and NIT Jaipur and NIT Arunachal are participating in the tournament. More than 500 faculty and staff from 22 NITs are participating in the tournament for the championship trophy in Cricket and Chess.

Director NIT Manipur Prof. DVLN Somayajulu has graced the inaugural ceremony as Chief Guest. Mr. Pritam Das former renowned Ranji trophy player from Barak valley was present in the inaugural ceremony as special guest. Prof. Dilip Kr Baidya, Director, NIT Silchar in his address welcome all the team to NIT Silchar and mentioned that their visit to Silchar will be a memorable one. He narrated that the people of Silchar are extremely cordial and all the teams will enjoy the love and warmth of Silchar. Prof. Fazal Ahmed Talukdar, the Chairman of the organising committee welcomed the teams to the tournament and briefly presented the history of the institute. He mentioned that participation of 22 NITs in the tournament itself is the winning moment of the tournament. Mr. Pritam Das also welcomed all the teams to Silchar . Prof. Nalin B D Choudhury, Dean (R&C), Prof. S. S. Dhar, Dean (S&W), Prof. Asim Roy, Registrar was present in the inauguration ceremony.

All the teams were presented with a memento from the institute as a token of heartfelt gratitude. NIT Hamirpur has presented their traditional Himachali Topi and Shawl to the Director, NIT Silchar as a token of their love and appreciation.

The tournament will be hosted in four different grounds including DSA and India Club. The DSA match officials are invited to conduct the matches.

The matches will be played in league cum knockout format. The final match will be played at the institute cricket ground on 17.12.2024.

The four day cricket and chess spectacular is likely to catch the national attention for next couple of days. 22 NITs came together to celebrate the spirit of cricket and chess and enjoy a fair and exciting tournament ahead!
