Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) program held at Cachar College

way2barak, 28 May: The Wildlife Institute of India, in collaboration with Cachar College Silchar and Assam Forest Department had organized a program on Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) on 28th May 2023. This program marks the beginning of the weeklong World Environment Day observation at Cachar College under the aegis of Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE).

G Asok Kumar, Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga, New Delhi, N Ashok Babu, Project Director, National River Conservation Directorate-WII; Dr. Nilam basumatary, Head dept of Zoology, Cachar College; Dr Ruchi Badola, Scientist -G & Dean, WII; Dr. S.A.Hussain-Scientist-G,WII; Dr P.K Mathur-Scientist-G&Former Dean,WII; P. Sivakumar,Chief Conservator of Forest, Southern Assam;  Tejas Mariswamy, Divisional Forest officer, Silchar, Assam graced the program as dignitaries. The program was also attended by other Scientists of Wildlife Institute of India, Assam Forest officials, Faculty members of Cachar College, Teachers and students from various schools and colleges, Members of civil society, NGOs, Police personnels, NCC cadets and NSS members.

G. Asok Kumar, the Chief Guest in this program, emphasized the importance of LiFE as a Nation wide project launched by Honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He also highlighted the need for conservation of River Barak for the greater benefits of the valley and its ecosystem. Kumar stressed upon the need for physical fitness so that the community is well educated for the better cause of environmental sustainability.
The program started with the welcome address by Dr Ruchi Badola. P. Sivakumar and Tejas Mariswamy spoke on the necessity of working for the greater benefit of community by conserving rivers and forests to maintain a sustainable environment. Dr. Nilam Basumatary illuminated the importance of conserving the Hills so as to protect rivers, as the hills are the cradle of mighty rivers. The program was anchored by Shuvayu Modak, project assistant, NRCD-WII. Birupakshya Paul Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Cachar College delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The program concluded with a pledge for conservation of nature for a sustainable lifestyle. After the program, the Chief Guest, G Asok Kumar and other dignitaries planted saplings within the college campus along with students, teachers, NCC-NSS cadets, forest officials, etc.

Amongst other officials, Dr. Dipyaman Mohanta, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Birupakshya Paul Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Dr. Debasish Deb, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany from Cachar College Silchar coordinated for the overall success of the events.
