For Argentina, the two goals were scored by Molina and Lionel Messi respectively. It’s Messi’s 95th goal for Argentina on his 170th appearance for his country and his tenth in the World Cup, taking him level with Gabriel Batistuta as Argentina’s all-time top goal scorer in the competition. Lionel Messi converts a penalty to make it 2-0. Here’s how it went, a slow run up and a pause towards the end. Noppert is stuck to the ground as the Argentine captain dispatches it to the right.
That was a proper heart numbing match. Argentina taking a 2-0 lead, and then conceding two late in the second half. Goalless extra time. Penalties. Martinez saving the first two spot kicks, Argentina taking a 2-0 lead. The Dutch hitting the next three. Enzo Fernandez missing Argentina’s fourth. And then, at last, Lautaro Martinez putting in the winning penalty.
