Underdog Maharishi Vidya Mandir Silchar clinches the 22nd Baidyanath Trophy

Maharishi Vidya Mandir defeated Narsing HS School by 53 runs

way2barak, Dec.1: Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MVM), Silchar defeated the most strong contender Narsing HS School by 53 runs and lifted the 22nd Baidyanath Memorial Prize Money 11-15 Prize Money Inter- School Tournament 2022-23. In the Under-15 (two days) final, MVM Silchar won the toss and decided to bat and made 138 (first innings). In reply, Narsing School scored 102 a the loss of 10 wickets in their first innings.

Later, MVM Silchar scored 136 in their second innings and secured a lead of 172 runs. But chasing this herculean target of 172, Narsing HS School was bundled out for 119 runs. Debraj Sarkar the off spinner of MVM, who missed a hat trick, but took 6 significant wickets in the last innings.

Reaching out to cliffhanger of success, MVM Silchar faced many impediments. In semi final tie, MVM Silchar had only 9 members in the squad against Swashbuckler Government Boys HS School. Despite, MVM won like Phoenix bird. 2 of their players failed to qualify for medical test on the day of semi final event. However, best Batsman (man of the tournament) was awarded to Arpan Bhar, whereas the award of Man of the match went to Debraj Sarkar. MVM won prize money cash worth Rs.12,000 along with Baidyanath Memorial  trophy.

The Prize distribution ceremony was held at DSA playground with gracious presence of many dignitaries – Atin Das, Sujoy Dutta Gupta, CEO cum proprietor of Dainik Jugasankha- Bijoy Krishna Nath and many others. The prize distribution ceremony was moderated by Bijendra Prasad Singh, General Secretary of Silchar DSA.
