World War II vintage bomb detonated safely in Manipur
way2barak, Sept.18: A World War II vintage bomb was found during digging in Kamjong district of Manipur, bordering Myanmar. On receipt of the information, security forces, with the assistance of local police, safely shifted the bomb away from populated area for disposal. A team of the army bomb disposal unit carried out the safe disposal of 250 lbs bomb.
Manipur Police and paramilitary forces ensured safe evacuation of 250 residents residing within 2 km radius from the explosion site before disposing off the powerful bomb. Finally, security forces on Saturday safely detonated the World War II vintage bomb.
During the World War II (1939-45), Northeastern India was the site of several fierce battles as Japanese forces reached Manipur and Nagaland when they invaded British India. Finally, they were defeated at the hands of the Allied Powers.
