Subhajit Das directs veteran actors Pradip Das, Sontosh Kr Dey, Seema Purkayastha in ‘Bapi O Bubun’, writes Shanku Sharma

way2barak, Sept.12: Filming intense and emotionally- draining scenes are tough. However, there are young filmmakers who are willing to take up serious issues. They are willing to write and direct intense scenes (close shots, facial expressions, movement of the eyes, eyebrows and others). They do not hesitate to take veteran actors in their films (both short and long). One such budding filmmaker is Subhajit Das, a college-goer with immense acting, writing and direction abilities. Silchar-based film actor, screenplay writer, scriptwriter and theatre actor Subhajit Das has worked with the legendary Tollywood actor Biswajit Chakraborty. His experience of working in Kolkata with professionals has helped him a lot in learning the nuances of filmmaking.

Subhajit has almost finished filming Bapi O Bubun, which is a Bengali feature film featuring Barak Valley’s legendary actors Pradip Das, Sontosh Kumar Dey and Seema Purkayastha. It is an emotional take on a father- daughter relationship (Bapi and Bubun – played by the veteran actor Sontosh Kumar Dey and the drop- dead gorgeous debutante Soumyanuja Sen).

Subhajit is known to give chances to aspiring actors. He wants to work with young actors. However, directing veteran actors Pradip Das, Sontosh Kumar Dey and Seema Purkayastha was challenging for him. “I am glad that I could direct these great actors. I learnt a lot from them. I am happy that they believed in my story and had faith in me. It was lovely directing them. I am very excited as I have always admired Sontosh kaku, Pradip jethu and Seema aunty. It is a dream- come- true moment for me. I am yet to decide on the duration of the film. I have plans to release it in the halls. A couple of scenes are yet to be shot for Bapi O Bubun,” adds an excited Subhajit.

The young filmmaker says, “Bapi O Bubun features two fresh faces, Soumyanuja and Taniya Chakraborty. The rest of the cast has already worked with me. I shot some romantic scenes and getaways with Soumyanuja. I play her love interest, Sauvik. I hope to release the film within a month or so. Fingers crossed,” adds an anxious Subhajit. One of the most interesting features of Bapi O Bubun is that it has some lovely romantic getaways. Directing oneself is a daunting task, and Subhajit knows how to do it. “I had no problems in filming those romantic scenes. The film has been shot exclusively in Silchar. There are two or three songs in Bapi O Bubun,” says Subhajit.

The mahurat shot of the Bengali feature film was taken on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi. Subhajit’s production house, Subhajit Films and Entertainment (SFE), in association with Snapshot, will release Bapi O Bubun. Bapi O Bubun is being presented by OH YES! BIRYANI and produced by Debosmita Bhattacharjee. Subbhalaxmi Chaudhuri is the title sponsor of the film. Nabina Majumder, DKSP Group, Rimu Deb and Satarupa Choudhury are the co-producers of the feature film. Other actors include Subhajit Das, Soumyanuja Sen, Shuvam Lodh, Taniya Chakraborty, Sarada Das, Debopriya Sengupta, Bishal Acharjee, Soumyajyoti Bhattacharjee, Anindita Dutta Banik, Subha Chakraborty, Bijoy Roy and Shanku Sharma.

“The title song and the music of the film will be looked after by Monobina Das and Saptarishi Chakraborty. The directors of photography (DOPs) are Animesh Sharma and Siddhartha Das. Shoumik Mazumder and Shubham Biswas are the associate DoPs of the film. Raaj of TR Makeup Studio is looking after the makeup part. The executive producers of the film are Anindita, Shanku and Pranjan Das. Shuvam and Soumyanuja are also the associate directors of the film. Shuvam and Bijoy are the line producers of the films. The production managing heads of SFE are Malyosree Bhattacharjee and Shanku. Anindita and Saini Paul are also the production designers of Bapi O Bubun,” Subhajit adds.
