Silchar unit of Bangla Sahitya Sabha felicitates renowned author Dr. Amalendu Bhattacharjee

Aug. 4: Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Asom Silchar unit along with Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya organised a programme to felicitate renowned author, Folk historian & researcher Dr. Amalendu Bhattacharjee on being awarded the prestigious Azaan Peer Award by Govt. of Assam. The programme organised on 3 August was presided over by eminent columnist & author, President of BSSA (Central committee) Atin Das. Guest of honour was Dr. Niranjan Roy, former Registrar, Assam University.

Dr. Bhattacharya was felicitated with address of honour, mementos & a statue of goddess Saraswati by Atin Das, Dr. Niranjan Roy, President BSSA Silchar unit Samar Bijoy Chakrabarty, Nandini Chakrabarty & Kamalesh Bhattacharya. Nibedita Chakrabarty & Sayan Chakrabarty read out the address of honour. The programme started with recitation of hymn, followed by classical dance, Rabindra Sangeet (chorus) & rhythm music.

In his speech, Dr. Bhattacharjee thanked the organisers for the honour & informed the audience about his ongoing research. He narrated the historical facts on Barak valley, post & pre British era, relating it’s historical connection with rest of the then undivided India along with the civilisation that grew around river Barak since Aryan days. In his speech, Dr. Bhattacharjee also revealed the similarities & connection of Siddheswar Shiv temple founded by Kapil Muni with a one at present Gujarat.

The other speakers including Atin Das, Dr. Niranjan Roy, Samar Bijoy Chakrabarty & Subrata Das, VP BSSA Silchar applauded the works of Dr. Bhattacharjee & greeted his journey that would support the researchers of coming years.

After last devastating flood, BSSA Silchar unit had been organising health & relief camps in & around Silchar town with the support of its members & well-wishers from India & abroad. In the programme four of them were also felicitated. They are Animesh Dey, Rajesh Kumar Das, Debashree Dutta & Kanchan Deb.

Present in the programme included Prof. Santosh Chakrabarty, Dr. Debotosh Chakrabarty, Samhita Dutta Choudhury, Dr. Barunjyoti Choudhury, Satadal Acharya, Sandipan Dutta Purkayastha, Bikramjit Bawlia, Nibedita Chakrabarty, Sekhar Debroy among others. The programme was compered by Anirban Jyoti Gupta.
