Flag Code of India amended; Tricolour can now be flown day & night

July 23: The Centre has amended the Flag Code of India, allowing the Tricolour to now be flown by the public both day and night. Earlier, the Tricolour was allowed to be flown from sunrise to sunset, irrespective of weather conditions.

The Flag Code of India, 2002 was amended vide Order dated 20th July, 2022 and clause (xi) of paragraph 2.2 of Part-II of the Flag Code of India was replaced by the following clause:-(xi) “where the Flag is displayed in open or displayed on the house of a member of public, it may be flown day and night;”

The government had earlier also amended the provision for material used for producing Tricolour by permitting polyester and machine-made Tricolour.
