Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Assam distribute bleaching powder & phenyl among flood victims

July 1: Flood 2.0 in Silchar town witnessed and experienced a new phenomenon. It was not the government agencies but the local youths, clubs, NGO’s and organisations who exhibited help to the people in their dire distress. When many expressed dissatisfaction at the trained and skilled govt agencies, these unskilled individuals came forward to help the people even in those parts of the town where the water level was very high.

Now, when the flood water has started to recede, it’s time for the flood victims to leave the relief camps and proceed towards their once inundated homes. On reaching home, they need to clean their house. Keeping this aspect in mind, the members of the Silchar chapter of Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Asom distributed bleaching powder and phenyl among the inmates of relief camps so that they could go and clean their houses properly.

On Friday, these materials were distributed among the flood victims who took shelter in relief camps at Daffodils School, Saraswati Vidya Niketan, Sisgu Tirtha School. It was informed that the Bangla Sahitya Sabha will continue their mission in many other relief camps on Saturday and Sunday too.

Speaking during the occasion, Samar Bijoy Chakraborty, President of the Silchar chapter of Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Asom said, “We have tried our best to stand beside the flood affected people by distributing sanitation items. Those residing in relief camps are not so economically sound and as such, we provided them with bleaching powder and phenyl so that these materials could be used in cleaning their houses.”
