District Congress writes to DC Cachar, urges to declare Cachar as ‘flood affected area’

May 19: A delegation of Silchar District Congress Committee led by its President Tamal Kanti Banik  and accompanied by Town congress President Atanu Bhattacharjee and others on Thursday visited several flood affected areas of Silchar. The team of Silchar DCC also visited some of the relief camps and interacted with the flood affected victims. Later on, District Congress also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, cachar, wherein they demanded that Cachar District be immediately declared as flood affected area and to provide relief to the flood victims living by the roadside, END dykes, village and municipal ward areas.

“As most of the areas of Cachar district are inundated by the flood water. The water level of Barak and its tributaries have been rising alarmingly and the situation may get further worsened. In this situation, you are requested to kindly declare Cachar district as flood affected area, stated Congress District President Tamal Banik in the memorandum.

Tamal Banik further stated, “It is a matter of great concern that the PHE has failed to provide required drinking water supply to the Silchar town area and the people are worst affected. May kindly pass necessary order to the PHE to supply drinking water to the town area and if required the water supply may be done through water tank vehicle. Moreover, a substantial number of flood affected people are living in their house somehow or has taken shelter in the high land, roadside and END dykes. In view of the facts stated above, you are requested to kindly provide relief to the flood affected people in the village, municipal area, roadside and END dykes.”
