Water level of river Barak rising at multiple places on Saturday, situation under strict vigil: WT message

May 14:  In a WT message sent by Executive Engineer PWD, Silchar WR Division to the Secretary, Water Resorce Department, Government of Assam at 3 PM on Saturday, it was stated that the water level of river Barak at various places in Cachar district was rising. In the said report, it was further mentioned that the situation is under strict vigil and the department is trying its level best to avert breaches and to cope up the situation round the clock.

Due to incessant rainfall since the last few days, the water level of river Barak started to increase. As per report received from Assam Water Resource Department, river Barak at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar at 3 PM on Saturday was flowing above the danger level and was at 19.87 metre. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metre. The water level was rising by 7 cm per hour.

  • Again, the water level of Barak at Lakhipur on 14 May (at 3 PM) was 23.46 metres as against the danger level of 23.88 metres. The water level is rising here by 1 cm per hour.
  • The water level of River Rukni at Dholai on 14 May (at 3 PM) was 23.37 metres as against the danger level of 24.58 metres. The water level is rising here by 2 cm per hour.
  • The water level of River Sonai at Amraghat on 14 May (at 3 PM) was 21.22 metres as against the danger level of 26.96 metres. The water level is rising here by 1 cm per hour.
