Bring back Netaji’s remains from Japan after DNA test, his grandnephew urges PM Modi

March 19: Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida is on a 2-day visit to India. Amid his visit, the grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Chandra Kumar Bose has urged upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ask his Japanese counterpart to bring back Netaji’s purported remains from Japan’s Renkoji temple after proper DNA test.

Controversial remains of Netaji in Japan

Taking to his twitter handle on Saturday, grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose wrote, “FumioKishida-Japanese PM to meet Hon’ble PM- Shri @narendramodi. Please request FumioKishido to facilitate DNA test of #Renkoji remains of the Hero of Asia & bring back the remains to India- the land he liberated from the clutches of British imperialism. Jai Hind!”

In another tweet, Chandra Kumar Bose wrote, “Appreciate your views! Anita Bose Pfaff #Netaji’s daughter had written to PM- Shri @narendramod to facilitate DNA test of #Renkoji remains of #Netaji-awaiting a positive response from GOI.”

Renkō-ji is a Buddhist temple in Tokyo, Japan. It is assumed to be the purported location of the ashes of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Indian freedom-fighter, which have been preserved since September 18, 1945. Some believed that Netaji died in a plane crash and since then his ashes were preserved at Japan’s Renkoji temple. However, majority still believe this as a conspiracy theory and argue that Bose did not die in that plane crash and hence the ashes is not that of Netaji. Of late, demand has been raised to do DNA test of the remains.

Seven decades have passed since Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose went missing in 1945, with many historians suggesting that he might have died in a plane crash, but the recurring demand to bring back his purported remains from a temple in Japan for DNA examination has not been met with thus far.
