৯ জানুয়ারি : রাজ্যে যখন নাগরিকত্ব বিল ২০১৬’র বিরুদ্ধে বিভিন্ন দল একের পর রক প্রতিবাদে সামিল হয়েছে, ঠিক সে সময়ই উঠে এসেছে আরেকটি ইস্যু। বিভিন্ন উপজাতি জনগোষ্ঠীকে তফসিলি উপজাতির স্বীকৃতি দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে নতুন করে বিভিন্ন মহল থেকে প্রতিবাদের ঝড় উঠেছে। আসামের কয়েকটি উপজাতি জনগোষ্ঠীর যৌথ মঞ্চ এ বার আগামী ১১ জানুয়ারি রাজ্যে ২৪ ঘণ্টার বনধ ডেকেছে। এ দিন সকাল ৫টা থেকে এই বনধ শুরু হবে। এই বনধ মূলত আসামের ৬ জনগোষ্ঠীকে উপজাতির মর্যাদা দেওয়ার বিরুদ্ধে আহ্বান করেছে এই যৌথ কমিটি।

January 9: When protest demonstrations are staged by various parties in the state on the issue of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, another issue has taken the state by storm. It is regarding granting ST status to some other tribes. It was learnt that the Coordination Committee of Tribal Organisation, Assam has given a call for 24-hour Assam Bandh on January 11 from 5 AM. The Coordination Committee has called the bandh to protest against the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Amendment Bill, 2019 which has sought to accord Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the six indigenous groups of the State.
