Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant appointed new Vice Chancellor of Assam University
আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে প্রথম অবাঙালি উপাচার্য

ওয়েটুবরাক, ১৪ ডিসেম্বর : আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রায় তিন দশকের ইতিহাসে এই প্রথম একজন অবাঙালি উপাচার্য পদে নিযুক্তি পেয়েছেন৷ অধ্যাপক দিলীপচন্দ্র নাথের স্থলাভিষিক্ত হচ্ছেন রাজীবমোহন পন্থ৷ তিনি এই সময়ে অরুণাচল প্রদেশ স্থিত  নর্থ-ইস্টার্ন রিজিয়নাল ইনস্টিট্যুট অব সায়েন্স অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজি (নেরিস্ট)-এর অধ্যাপক৷ মাঝে সাত বছর গুয়াহাটিতে ডেপুটেশনে এনইআরসি-র ডিরেক্টর পদে নিয়োজিত ছিলেন৷

অধ্যাপক পন্থ ১৯৮৬ সালে লেকচারার হিসাবে তাঁর শিক্ষকতা শুরু করেন৷ নেরিস্টে যোগ দেন ১৯৯৭ সালে৷ সহযোগী অধ্যাপক পদে৷ ২০০৫ সালে পদোন্নতি পেয়ে অধ্যাপক হন৷

তিনি ১৯৮২ সালে অর্থবিদ্যায় এমএ করেন৷ পিএইচডি মেলে এর নয় বছর পরে, বিহার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে৷  ইগনু থেকে এমবিএ করেন ২০০১-এ৷ পিজিডিআরএম ২০২০ সালে৷

কেন্দ্রীয় শিক্ষা দফতর থেকে শুক্রবারই তাঁর নিযুক্তির কথা জানানো হয়েছে। ভিজিটর হিসাবে রাষ্ট্রপতি রামনাথ কোবিন্দ তাঁর নিযুক্তিতে অনুমোদন জানালে দফতর বিজ্ঞপ্তি প্রকাশ করে। তাতে জানানো হয়েছে, উপাচার্য হিসেবে তাঁর কার্যকালের মেয়াদ পাঁচ বছর। তবে সত্তর বছর হয়ে গেলে এর আগেই অব্যাহতি নিতে হবে। এ দিনই তা আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিদায়ী উপাচার্য দিলীপচন্দ্র নাথ এবং রেজিস্ট্রারকে চিঠি পাঠিয়ে জানিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে৷

Jan. 14: Ending months of speculation, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar. He will be replacing Prof Dilip Chandra Nath as the new VC. Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar whose term expired on 15 May, 2021 has been asked by the Ministry of Education to continue in office notwithstanding the expiry of the tenure till his successor is appointed and enters upon office or till further orders, whichever is earlier. With the appointment of Prof. Pant, Assam University will get its 1st non-Bengali Vice Chancellor.

In a letter addressed to the Registrar of Assam university on 14 January, 2022,PK Singh, Under Secretary to the Government of India wrote, “I am directed to say that in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Statutes of the Assam University, the President of India in his capacity as the Visitor of the Assam University has been pleased to appoint Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology, Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh as the Vice-Chancellor of the Assam University for a period of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier..”

The letter from the Union Ministry of Education further stated, “The terms and conditions of the services of Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant as the Vice-Chancellor of the Assam University shall be those as set forth in the Act, Statutes and Ordinances of the University.”

Dr Rajive Mohan Pant is an expert on Organizational Development and Change Management, Rural Development, Marketing of Rural products and services, Policy on Indian Himalayan Region. He is presently working as a Professor at the Centre for Management Studies (CMS) in North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Arunachal Pradesh since 2005.

Prof. Pant did his MA in Economics from Kumaon University, Nainital. He also did MBA in Human Resource Management and and PGDRM in Rural Management from IGNOU. He did his Ph.D in Industrial Relations from Bihar University.

Prof Pant started his career in 1991 as a Lecturer in BIT Mesra. He then joined Birla Institute of Science & Technology, Bhimtal as lecturer in 1991 and worked there till 1993. From 1993 to 1997 Prof RM Pant worked as a lecturer at NIFFT, Ranchi. He joined NERIST, Arunachalpradesh as Associate Professor in 1997. From 2014-2021, he was the Director of NIRDPR-NERC, Guwahati.
