Air passenger misbehaves with teachers & police on Covid duty, creates ruckus at Silchar airport

Aug 30: As per the state government directives, all incoming passengers who have been fully vaccinated with two doses of COVID-19 shall be exempted from testing on arrival. However, such passengers need to produce their vaccination certificates before the screening authority at the Airport. Apart from this, those who possess negative Covid test report of samples taken within 72 hours of their arrival in Assam shall also be exempted from testing on arrival. An order to this effect was issued by the state government on 17 August, 2021.

On Monday, the teachers who have been assigned duty of screening incoming passengers at Silchar Airport and check vaccination certificates and Covid test reports revealed that a few passengers have misbehaved with them on Monday. They further alleged that they were also manhandled by the passenger who also tore their identity card. These passengers refused to produce their vaccination certificates before the screening staff at the Airport.

The on duty teachers have also alleged that this has become a regular affair where they had to face humiliation at the hands of the passengers. They further demanded that the administration should provide additional security for them. On Monday, after the passenger misbehaved with the on-duty staff, who were mostly teachers on deputation, Udharbond Police was informed. Ankur Saikia, SI of Udharbond Police Station reached the Airport with his forces.

However, one of the passengers, who was alleged to have misbehaved with the staff later on denied to have carried physical assault upon the on-duty teachers. But later on, that particular passenger was even seen to quarrel with the police and refused to either show his vaccine certificate/ Covid test report or even go for doing fresh test. The passenger further said to the Police, “I read Namaj 5 times a day, I will not be infected with Corona, but you people will die of AIDS. Policeman in Mumbai die due to AIDS. You will be infected with Corona.” The passenger arrived at Silchar from Mumbai and was seen quarreling even with the police for a long time. He even refused to board the bus as provided by the District administration.
