Dream come true: Neeraj Chopra wins gold for India in Javelin Throw in Tokyo Olympics

Aug 7: It’s indeed a historic moment and a dream come true for India, as Neeraj Chopra won gold medal for India in Javelin Throw in Tokyo Olympics. In the finals, he covered his highest throw of 87.58m (in the second of six attempts). He is the first Indian to win an athletics medal and only the second to win an individual medal.

“Unprecedented win by Neeraj Chopra! Your javelin gold breaks barriers and creates history. You bring home first-ever track and field medal to India in your first Olympics. Your feat will inspire our youth. India is elated! Heartiest congratulations,” President Ram Nath Kovind said on Twitter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a “History has been scripted at Tokyo!”

Taking to his twitter handle, Abhinav Bindra wrote, “And Gold it is for @Neeraj_chopra1 .Take a bow, young man ! You have fulfilled a nation’s dream. Thank you! Also, welcome to the club – a much needed addition! Extremely proud. I am so delighted for you.” 

Meanwhile, Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Vítězslav Veselý bagged the silver and bronze. Vadlejch best throw of 86.67m, which earned him the silver medal came in his fifth attempt. While Veselý threw 85.44m to finish third.
