Singhal & Suklabaidya reaches Silchar to oversee resumption of interstate vehicular movement

Aug. 7: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma after a meeting of the MLA’s of Barak Valley deputed two of his cabinet colleagues, Ashok Singhal and Parimal Suklabaidya to Cachar to visit Assam- Mizoram border and oversee the smooth movement of goods & transportation between Assam & Mizoram.

The peace talks between Assam and Mizoram at Aizawl this week ensured free movement of goods and transportation between the two states. However, Mizoram Chief Secretary, Lalnunmawia Chuaungo on Friday said no vehicle carrying goods or passengers entered Mizoram despite neighbouring Assam lifting the travel curbs, which were imposed in wake of violence along the interstate border. Chuaungo also said that Mizoram is in constant touch with the Assam government, which has promised to take necessary steps for resumption of traffic movement via National Highway-306.

It is in this backdrop, that the Gaurdian Minister of Cachar, Ashok Singhal and Parimal Suklabaidya reached Silchar on Saturday afternoon and had a brief discussion with Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli and Sueprintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur. After the discussion, the two ministers made a move towards Assam Mizoram border to oversee the smooth movement of goods & transportation between Assam & Mizoram.

Taking to his twitter handle, Minister, Ashok Singhal wrote, “As desired by our HCM @himantabiswa, just reached Silchar and had a brief discussion with @dccachar & SP Cachar. Will move towards Assam Mizoram border along with Hon’ble Minister @ParimalSuklaba1 to oversee the smooth movement of goods & transportation between Assam & Mizoram.”
