Let’s be more responsible in keeping our town clean, said Dr Rajdeep Roy in Citizen’s Meet of SMB

July 17: “This is our town and it is not desirable to point fingers. I call upon the youth to join us in this revolution of change, of being more responsible, developing more civic sense and making Silchar the pride of North East,” said Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy during a Citizen’s Meet organised by Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) at Banga Bhavan on Saturday.

The Citizen’s Meet was held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, Executive Officer of SMB J Lalsim, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, former Municipal Commissioners Niharendra Narayan Thakur and Tamal Kanti Banik, Nitya Bhusan Dey among others. A gamut of issues ranging from traffic problem, clogged drains, street vendors, cleanliness and solid waste management were discussed.

The issue of Vending Zone also came up for discussion, as per which such a zone for the street vendors were earmarked near Sadarghat. This work has been entrusted with the Town Vending Committee. Former SMB Chairman Tamal Kanti Banik suggested that this should be done without causing disturbance to the commuters of the town.
