Night curfew in Assam now from 7 PM to 7 AM

May 18: The Assam government has issued an order stipulating the detailed rules and regulations as regards Lockdown 4.0. As regards ‘Night curfew’, the order issued on 18 May, 2020 by Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Chief Secretary, Assam. stated, “The movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 7.00 pm to 7.00 am. except for essential activities. District Magistrates shall issue orders. in the entire area of their jurisdiction. under appropriate provisions of law, such as prohibitory orders [Curfew] under Section 144 of CrPC. and ensure strict compliance.” This would continue to remain in force till 31 May, 2020 to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Earlier during Lockdown 3.0, the night curfew though was imposed by the Union government from 7 PM to 7 AM, but Assam government changed the timings from 6 PM to 6 AM. However, during the ongoing Lockdown 4.0, the state government preferred to go with the centre. Hence, till 31 May, 2020, night curfew in the state of Assam will be from 7 PM to 7 AM.
