7 new cancer hospitals to be set up in Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma
July 6: On 5 July, 2019 the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) gave the contract of constructing seven cancer hospitals in the state in the first phase to Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an Indian multinational conglomerate company, and the entire project will cost Rs 736 crore. This was announced by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference held at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati on Saturday. The Foundation was formed in the year 2018 by the Assam government in collaboration with Tata Trust.
The minister said, “The construction work of the 7 new cancer hospitals will start from August 2019. The new cancer hospitals will be constructed in Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Darrang, Jorhat and that of the Guwahati Cancer Hospital attached to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will be upgraded.” Additionally, in the second phase three more hospitals will be constructed in the state. “After the entire tender process based on lowest rate, L&T has been given the order of construction of seven government hospitals,” announced Sarma.
