60-bed ICU at SMCH for Covid management to be functional by 2 May: Himanta Biswa Sarma

April 24: With the advent of 2nd wave of coronavirus in the country, the number of positive cases are also on the rise in Assam. State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has started taking measures to tackle this new wave. Work has begun for setting up of a 60-bed ICU for emergency support & Covid management at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). The PWD employees are closely working with the faculty members of SMCH to expedite the work of this 60-bed ICU. Informing this, the minister stated that the ICU will be functional by 2 May, 2021.

In a tweet, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma write, “My PWD team is working closely with faculty of Silchar Medical College & Hospital to expedite setting up of a 60-bed ICU for emergency support & #Covid management. I am sure this shall get functional by May 2, 2021.”

A total of 92 persons were found positive in Cachar district on 23 April. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 374. As per the updated data, a total of 1,733 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done on 23 April, out of which, a total of 40 persons were found positive, whereas 52 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Friday night. It needs mention here that on Thursday, 38 persons were tested positive in Cachar.
