6-run win over Pakistan

way2barak, June 10: Team India posted a 6-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday in the charged ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Group A encounter.

India were bundled out for 119 runs in 19 overs but managed to defend the total by limiting Pakistan to 113 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 wickets to claim their second win of the game.

Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah, who claimed a three-wicket haul for his side in the first innings, was inconsolable after Babar Azam and Co. let the match slip through the gap of their fingers.

Pakistan skipper Azam won the toss and put India to bat first as his side made early inroads with the early dismissals of Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli for 13 and 4 runs respectively. Rohit fell to Shaheen Afridi for his only wicket of the day.

Rishabh Pant and promoted Axar Patel put up a 39-run stand to steady the Indian innings before the latter was scalped by Naseem Shah for his second wicket of the day, after Kohli’s scalp.

Pant’s lone-ranger innings of 42 was the highlight of the Indian batting card as the middle and lower order crumbled with the Shah and Haris Rauf registering three-wicket hauls each.

Pakistan started their chase off rather well and seemed to be cruising to victory with Mohammad Rizwan anchoring the innings but after his fall at 31 off a splendid Jasprit Bumrah delivery it all unravelled.

Pakistan lost wickets in clusters and fell behind as the asking rate mounted. Bumrah continued wreaking havoc as he ended with a three-fer, ably supported by all-rounder Hardik Pandya who was responsible for the departure of two batters.

It ended up in tame fashion for Pakistan as they could only add 113 runs to their scorecard while losing out seven batsmen. Bumrah was presented with the Player of the Match award for his contributions as India marched to their second win of the tournament.
