6 dead, more than 12 injured after bus carrying passengers falls into river in Meghalaya
Sept. 30: At least six passengers have died and over a dozen have sustained injuries after a Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) bus travelling from Tura to Shillong in Meghalaya fell into Ringdi River at Nongchram (East Garo Hills district) on Thursday morning. The injured persons have been admitted to at hospitals in Williamnagar and Tura, East Garo Hills Police said.
Taking to his twitter handle, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote, “Pained by the unfortunate MTC bus accident at Nongchram Bridge that claimed precious lives. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and I wish speedy recovery to those injured.”
Meanwhile, the East Garo Hills police has informed that the families of the passengers can call police control room number 8794765696 for more information.
