Alleged vandalism at Nightangle, OPD of private hospitals to remain shut for 24 hours
Nov. 8: On the day of Kali Puja, a pregnant woman along with the baby in her womb lost her life while she was admitted at Nightangle Nursing Home in Silchar. The patient party allegedly manhandled Dr Arun Paul Choudhury, the gynecologist under whose treatment the deceased was admitted. Hospital authorities alleged that a mob vandalised their property and also abused the staff. This was severely criticised by the All Assam Non-Government Health Establishment Association (AANGHEA) during a press meet convened by them. However, at the same time, they also expressed condolences towards the family of the deceased.
As a mark of protest, all the private hospitals in Silchar will keep their Out Patient Departments (OPD) closed for 24 hours starting from 5 AM on 9 November, 2021. Rudra Narayan Gupta on behalf of the AANGHEA stated that though the OPD will be closed, yet on humanitarian grounds, the emergency department will be kept outside the purview of the protest. Mr Gupta severely criticised the aspect of ‘mob justice’ and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter by the administration.
